Eugene Atget --- the prettiest Paris I have ever seen(1)

At my first glance of his pictures, I felt a strong feeling of loneliness. And it is hard to state the reason why I got that feeling. Maybe it is because his pictures seldom include people or other characters. Maybe it is because of the balance of the black and white that can clam people down. Maybe it is exactly what Atget put into his pictures. His life was a legend.
Looking back, Atget lost his parents when he was a little boy. He grew up with his uncle. He became a sailor in his early life. After the distant journey, he started to learn acting. Unfortunately, it was not a success transition for him. Then he decided to turn to drawing but gained nothing . He finally took up his 18*24cm camera and the wooden foot stool at the age of 40.
Learning his history, It became easier for me to understand the loneliness. Being a sailor at that time could be a very risky thing. He experienced such uncertainty and dangerous when he was still a young man. After the risky journey, he was forced to accept the setback of his life --- the failure of becoming neither an actor nor a painter. The 40-year-old man lived in the artists' localities with his wife. However, the young artists regarded him as an odd old man and didn't want to talk with him. Sadly, he roamed into the streets of Paris in the early morning when there was nobody so that he can appreciate the quite streets as well as the serenity.
